I was unfortunate enough to need a vet on Sunday August 6, 2017 when my 11 week old Siberian Husky was attacked by another dog. We were about 20 minutes south of Brooks and Brooks Veterinary Clinic was the closest. Knowing this was a long weekend Sunday, I knew that any vert would be on a call out basis and I was willing to pay the premium for this service. When we got to the Vet, it was closed, but there was a number on the window, thinking that because the number was there, it was for emergencies. I called the number, a man answered, I asked if he was the vet, he acknowledged he was. I told him my pup had been attacked and his ear was bleeding quite bad and was wondering if he could come see him. He told me to hold pressure on the ear and the bleeding would stop and eventually clot. He then told me that I could put polysporian (sp) on the ear. I asked if there was another vet that might be able to see my dog and he told me that because of the long weekend, he doubted anyone was open. With that, I hung up and called the Newell Veterinary Clinic, the Dr. was incredibly helpful, but unfortunately she was on another call north of the city and wouldn't be back for some time. We drove to the emergency vet hospital in Calgary, C.A.R.E and had the pup tended there. He required 3 stitches and antibiotics for the next week. I get the fact it was a long weekend, but if you don't want to be disturbed, do not leave a number on your window. I would not recommend going to this place. Try the Newell Clinic, I've heard good things.
I have always been happy with the service I get here. He is always willing to fit me in and reasonably priced.
I would give 0 stars if it were possible. We were at the Dinosaur Provincial Park in late July when our 3 month old Border Collie got bit by a rattlesnake. We rushed back towards town searching for the nearest Vet. It was after hours, so I was calling to talk to the vet who was on-call that evening, and I explained the situation. He told me there wasn't much he could do and that if we brought her in the next morning, that he could give her a pain-killer. I couldn't believe he wasn't taking us seriously and I knew if nothing was done she would end up dying in my arms.... Thankfully the Bow Valley Vet Clinic on-call Doctor met with me within 10 minutes of calling and our puppy ended up overnight in hospital hooked onto IV's and given anti-histamine injections as well as 2 antibiotics to take home after the whole ordeal. She would have died if I had listened to the doctor on the phone from the Brooks Veterinary Clinic. All because he just didn't want to come in to work... AVOID!
I called in with a concern about a cotton tail rabbit that sustained serious injuries after being hit by a car. It was alive and aware and I had it with me and was looking for a place that would help it. I was referred to this clinic from a wildlife rehab center elsewhere in Alberta. I called the vet clinic knowing full well they may not take wildlife but it was worth a try. I was told that the vet on call would give me a phone call ASAP when they were off the phone with another client to tell me what to do and/or if they would accept the rabbit. I told them that I was sitting on the road with the rabbit and I was assured I would receive a call shortly. So I waited. No call. I eventually wrapped the rabbit in a blanket and began driving to Brooks in the hopes of finding someone who could help. I never received a call back from the clinic as promised. When I called back 2.5 hours later to ask why I had not received a call I was told that they put a note on my file that wildlife is not accepted, yet nobody at the clinic told this to me. I obviously do not have access to this file. I was also told the vet was too busy to call. I can also understand that - they have very difficult and demanding jobs, but then one of the receptionists could have called me back. This wasn't just a casual call with a questions that could be responded to at any point in time, this was an urgent call regarding an animal that had been seriously injured and urgently needed help .I can understand why wildlife is not admitted and I expected as much but it is unacceptable that I was not given the courtesy of a phone call to let me know this was the case especially when I was told someone would get back to me right away. I expect better and this animal deserved better than to be left in limbo. I don't like to leave bad reviews but this was not a good first experience with this clinic.
I don't like the manager/owner. Always been rude to me as I was his neighbour for years
